Northumberland photography workshops

Join us on one of our Northumberland photography workshops and discover this rugged wild coastline famous for its ancient castles. The constant erosion of the north sea has carved out stunning seascapes where rocky outcrops meet the ocean.

An ideal place for using filters, there will be plenty of opportunity to master long-exposure photography using a range of shutter speeds. You will create images which vary from minimalist landscapes which work well in monochrome to dramatic photographs using shorter exposures to capture the drama which is ever present on the Northumbrian coast.

Your guide for the trip will be professional photographer Tony Higginson who has been leading workshops along this stretch of coastline for several years now. His knowledge of the beaches means that he understands which locations work best at different tide heights and times of day allowing you to get the best possible images.

Whilst traditional photography techniques work really well for seascapes, we will also be looking at alternative ways of ‘seeing’ the landscape. Of course, post-processing is equally as important in producing a great image as good technique and composition in the field, and on our Northumberland photography workshops you will receive image review as well as guidance in photoshop and lightroom.
All in all, this stretch of coastline is a real treat for all landscapers who love to be out in the elements capturing the power and majesty of the Britsh coast, and you will leave with treasured memories as well as photographs.

The beaches are stunning in their own right but add to them iconic old structures such as Bamburgh Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle, and Holy Island and you have a rich mixture of history and beauty. Standing by the harbour at Holy Island when the tide is high, cut off from the mainland is an experience you must not miss.

Meeting up Saturday 23rd November we will enjoy an evening meal out at a local restaurant where everyone can get to know each other before we get cracking with four and a half days of coastal landscape photography.

Included in the workshop is five nights accommodation in the beautiful Dunholme cottage which sits in the shadow of the iconic Bamburgh castle in the middle of the village and is rated at 9.5 on Trip advisor!

You get single occupancy in a double or twin room and a full English breakfast in the cottage. This allows us the flexibility to get out for sunrise and return to enjoy a hearty feed before heading out for the rest of the day.

I chose this time of year so that the sunrise and sunset times are reasonable, which allows us plenty of time in the evening to work on post-processing techniques in photoshop and or Lightroom without being too tired.

The workshop finishes at lunchtime on Thursday the 28th.
